Thomas Bartlett

Portrait of Thomas Bartlett
Artist’s impression based on the 12th Reinforcements D Company group photograph.

Private 817528 · D Company, 28th (Māori) Battalion · Italy 1944–45

Early life

Thomas (Tom) Bartlett was from Mohaka, in northern Hawke’s Bay. He was married, and his wife, Mrs L. Bartlett, lived at Mohaka. He was working as a labourer when he enlisted.

War

Tom’s service number runs straight on from those of Kara Aranui of Mohaka and Jacob Awarangi of Wairoa, so the three northern Hawke’s Bay men probably enrolled together. He sailed with D Company in 1944 and served in Italy. He is named in the 12th Reinforcements D Company photograph beside Mike Bartlett of Te Aute, who was probably a relative.
