Mike Bartlett

Private 68368 · D Company, 28th (Māori) Battalion · Italy 1944–45
Early life
Michael (Mike) Bartlett came from Te Aute, in Central Hawke’s Bay, and his mother, Mrs E. Bartlett of Opapa, was his next of kin. He was working as a labourer, and by the time he enlisted he had already lost his wife.
War
Mike’s service number follows straight on from Hiko Andrew’s, so the two men probably enrolled together. He sailed with D Company in 1944 and served with the battalion in Italy. He is named in the 12th Reinforcements D Company photograph, taken while the draft trained at Papakura under Lieutenant-Colonel George Bertrand, beside Tom Bartlett, who was probably a relative.
