Why this site
In 2014 the Government agreed that A, B and D Companies of the 28th (Māori) Battalion should each have a published history, as C Company has had since 2008. Twelve years on, the D Company book has still not been published.
Many of the men’s children are now in their eighties and nineties, and their stories will not wait. This site is my way of getting what I have found out to whānau now, one man at a time, rather than holding it back for a book.
It does not replace a full history, and I hope the D Company book is published one day. Until then, the men are here.
